The map

About this Destelbergen map poster

Destelbergen lies just east of Ghent in East Flanders, close enough to feel the city but still marked by open space. From above, the municipality is a patchwork of residential streets, fields, small woods and water. The Scheldt forms part of its edge, and its curving course and the old meanders nearby give the map its most distinctive shapes.

The municipality combines the village of Destelbergen itself with Heusden, each with its own cluster of streets around a church. Between them, newer residential areas spread along roads leading out of Ghent. Green spaces and the traces of old river bends break up the built-up zones and keep the landscape feeling open rather than continuously suburban.

A Destelbergen map poster shows a place where city and countryside meet. The dense street network of Ghent's outskirts fades into looser suburban loops and village centres, while the river adds long, fluid curves. It suits people who live here, commute into Ghent each day or remember walks and cycle rides along the Scheldt.

01

The Scheldt

The river curves along the edge of the municipality, a broad, smooth line on the map that contrasts with the finer street pattern of the neighbouring districts.

02

Village centres

Destelbergen and Heusden each keep a recognisable core, small clusters of older streets around which later housing has grown in rings and ribbons.

03

Edge of Ghent

On the western side the street network tightens as it meets Ghent, showing clearly how the municipality sits against the city's eastern fringe.
