The map
Erftstadt lies in the Rhein-Erft district, south-west of Cologne. It is not one compact town. It was formed in 1969 by merging a group of villages, including historic Lechenich and Liblar. From above, that history is easy to see: several separate built-up areas spread across farmland and linked by roads, with the small Erft river running through the eastern part of the municipality.
East of Liblar the land rises onto the Ville ridge. There, former lignite mining left a chain of lakes and woodland that now reads on the map as scattered blue shapes among trees. Schloss Gracht, a moated castle, stands in Liblar. In July 2021 the town drew international attention when floodwater caused the collapse of a gravel pit edge in the village of Blessem.
An Erftstadt map poster shows a town made of pieces. There are small village cores, each with its own historic streets, open fields between them, and the lakes and woods of the Ville. It is an unusual, spacious composition, quite different from a classic town plan with a single centre.
Erftstadt is made up of separate settlements such as Lechenich and Liblar. On the map they appear as distinct clusters of streets spread across the countryside.
East of the town, former lignite workings on the Ville ridge became a series of lakes in forest. They add scattered water shapes to the poster.
The small Erft river runs through the municipality, which takes its name from it. Its low, flat valley shapes the farmland and road network around it.

Why Erftstadt
Erftstadt is a place people identify with through their own village as much as through the town as a whole. A map lets everyone find their part of it, and the spread-out layout gives the poster a calm, balanced look.
Add a title, a subtitle such as your village or a family date, and a coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand to fit your interior.
