The map

About this Fatehjang map poster

Fatehjang lies in Attock district on the Potohar Plateau, a region of uneven farmland broken by ravines and dry stream beds. From above, the town is a compact centre of streets and markets, with roads heading out towards Islamabad, Rawalpindi and other towns of northern Punjab. The land around it is patterned with fields, gullies and scattered villages.

The town sits on the road linking the region to Islamabad, and the new Islamabad International Airport was built in the countryside between them, bringing new road links and development to the area. The plateau landscape, with its eroded ravines, gives the surrounding terrain a distinctly broken texture.

A Fatehjang map poster records a small town at a point of change. The older core sits at the centre, main roads radiate across the plateau, and ravines and stream beds wind through the fields as irregular lines. It is a restrained, textured image of a less well-known corner of Punjab.

01

Town centre

The busiest streets and markets sit in a compact core. They form the densest part of the map, from which the main roads spread out.

02

Potohar ravines

Eroded gullies and seasonal stream beds cross the surrounding farmland. They add irregular, branching lines that are typical of the plateau.

03

Road to Islamabad

The main road east towards the capital is an important axis. Development has followed it in recent years as the region has grown.
