About this Heusy map poster
Heusy is a residential district of Verviers in the province of Liège, in eastern Belgium. It occupies the higher ground to the south of the town centre, above the valley of the Vesdre. On a map, the streets are anything but straight: they climb, bend and double back to deal with the slope, creating a dense tangle of lanes, villas and gardens.
Verviers grew prosperous in the nineteenth century through wool processing, using the soft water of the Vesdre, and wealthy families built houses on the heights around the town. Heusy retains that residential character, with larger properties, tree-lined streets and patches of woodland. Beyond it, the land continues upward towards the plateaus and forests of the Belgian uplands.
Because Heusy is part of a larger town, the map works best when it includes some of the valley below.
