The seafront line
The promenade is a nearly straight edge between town and beach, and on the map it separates the dense street pattern from the open white of the North Sea.

The map
From above, Middelkerke is a long, narrow strip along the North Sea. The beach is a pale band on the page. Behind it runs a firm line of seafront buildings along the promenade. Inland, the town soon gives way to polders, where straight roads and drainage channels divide the fields into long, level parcels.
The municipality lies between Ostend and Nieuwpoort and includes smaller places such as Westende and Leffinge. The coastal tram runs through it, and on a map its track follows the shoreline behind the dunes. It stitches Middelkerke to the resorts on either side, forming one long seaside chain along the Flemish coast.
A Middelkerke map poster shows how simple this coast is from above: open sand on one side, farmland on the other, and a thin band of streets in between. In black and white, the contrast between the empty sea and the dense seafront blocks is clear. The inland ditches add a quiet, repeating texture.
The promenade is a nearly straight edge between town and beach, and on the map it separates the dense street pattern from the open white of the North Sea.
The tram line runs parallel to the shore. It links Middelkerke with Ostend to the east and Nieuwpoort to the west, and gives the coast a steady line through the resort.
Behind the dunes, reclaimed low land is cut into rectangular plots by drainage ditches and farm roads. The result is a fine grid that fades out toward the edge of the frame.

Why Middelkerke
People hang Middelkerke for summers on the beach, a family apartment by the seafront, or years spent within sight of the North Sea. The horizontal shape of the coast suits a wide wall, and the fine polder lines stay readable from across a room.
You can change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a surname, a year or the name of a beach district. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits a seaside place especially well.
