The map
Neuruppin lies on the western shore of the Ruppiner See, a long, narrow lake in northern Brandenburg. After a great fire in 1787 destroyed much of the town, it was rebuilt to a regular plan with straight streets, broad squares and uniform classicist buildings. That grid is still clearly visible from above, set right against the curving lakeshore.
The town is known as the birthplace of the writer Theodor Fontane, whose travel writings made Brandenburg's landscapes famous, and of the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, who shaped much of nineteenth-century Berlin. Parks and a lakeside promenade line the water, and the lake itself extends far to the north and south of the town.
A Neuruppin map poster captures one of the clearest planned townscapes in Germany. The orderly grid sits against the long, organic line of the lake, and the result is balanced and calm. It suits people from the town, admirers of Fontane or Schinkel, and anyone who likes maps where architecture and water meet.

The long, narrow lake runs along the town's eastern side, creating a strong contrast between water and the geometric street plan.
Theodor Fontane and Karl Friedrich Schinkel were both born here, which gives the town a special place in German culture.
