Te mapa
Ambato Boeny is a district seat in the Boeny region of north-western Madagascar, set in the lowlands that descend from the central highlands towards the coast at Mahajanga. From above it reads as a compact settlement gathered along its main road, with a modest set of side streets branching off to either side and then giving way quickly to fields, grassland and scattered hamlets.
The surrounding district is known beyond Madagascar for its dry deciduous forest, part of which is protected in Ankarafantsika National Park, a reserve valued for its lemurs, birds and endemic reptiles. Rivers and seasonal streams cross the plain, and rice paddies tend to follow the lower ground, so the town sits inside a landscape that is shaped as much by water and season as by roads.
An Ambato Boeny map poster keeps that picture honest and uncluttered: one clear line of road, the blocks built up along it and the pale country that surrounds them. It suits a place that is seldom drawn at street level, and it gives anyone connected to the town or the Boeny region a calm, accurate way to keep it in view.
The town is organised along its principal road, which forms the strongest line on the poster and carries the eye straight through the built-up centre and out into the countryside.
Lanes branch from the main road in short runs, creating a loose, ladder-like pattern of blocks that thins out quickly towards the edges of the settlement.
Beyond the last streets the map opens into wide empty space, a reminder of the fields, grassland and seasonal waterways of the Boeny lowlands around the town.

Koteā ko Ambato Boeny
People hang Ambato Boeny because it is where family lives, where a posting or research trip took them, or where a road journey across north-western Madagascar paused. The sparse street pattern makes a quiet, graphic piece that looks deliberate rather than empty.
