Te mapa
Anshun lies in western Guizhou, where limestone karst covers the countryside in steep, rounded hills. The city fills the flatter ground between them, so from above the street pattern looks like water finding its way through obstacles. Hills stay as empty islands inside the urban area, and roads curve around them rather than running straight over.
The region is best known for Huangguoshu Waterfall, one of China's largest, which lies within Anshun's administrative area. It is also known for the Tunpu villages, stone-built settlements descended from Ming dynasty garrisons, and for dixi, a masked local opera. Caves, gorges and underground rivers are common across this part of the karst plateau.
An Anshun map poster reads well because of these interruptions. The older centre is a denser cluster of streets, while newer districts and expressways stretch into the valleys beyond it. The blank spaces left by the hills give the drawing rhythm and texture, even in simple black on white.
Rounded limestone hills stand inside the city as empty patches. Streets loop around their bases, so parts of the map look like a street network flowing around stepping stones.
Newer roads and districts follow the valley floors outward from the centre, stretching the city's shape along the flatter ground between ridges.
The historic core is a tighter weave of shorter streets. It reads as the densest part of the map and sits against the looser planned blocks around it.

Koteā ko Anshun
The map suits people from Guizhou, and travellers who passed through on the way to Huangguoshu, who remember a city shaped by its hills. It works well in a bright room, where the empty karst shapes stand out.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be changed, for example to a date, a neighbourhood or a short line in your own words. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
