Te mapa
Zunyi lies in northern Guizhou, in a landscape of rounded karst hills, narrow valleys and forested ridges. The city has had to fit itself into this terrain, and its map shows it: streets follow the valleys, bend around hills and cluster wherever flat ground allows, leaving green slopes scattered through the urban area.
The Xiang River winds through the centre, and the old parts of the city grew along its banks. Zunyi is best known in modern Chinese history for the Zunyi Conference, held in January 1935 during the Long March, which marked a turning point in the leadership of the Communist Party. The conference site in the old town is now a memorial and museum.
Zunyi's territory also includes Maotai, the town on the Chishui River that gives its name to China's most famous baijiu. A Zunyi map poster focuses on the city itself, where hills and river create an irregular, organic outline, and newer districts spread outward along valley roads toward the surrounding mountains.
The river winds through the heart of Zunyi, with older streets and bridges clustered along its curves, forming the central line of the map.
Rounded green hills rise between neighbourhoods, leaving blank areas inside the city that give the print an unusually open, broken texture.
Newer districts extend along narrow valleys, following roads that curve around slopes rather than cutting straight across them, so the city spreads in long fingers.

Koteā ko Zunyi
Zunyi appeals to those from Guizhou and to anyone interested in modern Chinese history or in cities that live closely with their landscape. The combination of river and hills produces a map that is at once dense and green.
