Te mapa
Araras lies in the interior of São Paulo state, a medium-sized city in a region long associated with sugarcane and agriculture. Its name means macaws in Portuguese. On a map the town shows the typical pattern of the São Paulo interior: a regular grid of blocks around a central square and main church.
From that core, newer neighbourhoods spread out in grids and curving subdivisions of their own. They do not always align with the original plan, so the edges of the map show slightly rotated patches meeting one another. The Anhanguera highway passes along the city, and beyond the built-up area the land opens into long, regular fields that frame the town.
An Araras map poster suits anyone who grew up here or keeps family in the interior. The design is orderly without being monotonous. It has a clear historic centre, a scatter of newer districts at shifting angles, and the long line of the highway linking the city to Campinas and São Paulo to the south.
Square blocks around the main square and church form the historic centre, a regular lattice that gives the design its calm, ordered middle.
Newer residential areas follow their own layouts, meeting the original grid at slight angles and creating a patchwork of textures toward the edges.
One of São Paulo's main highways runs past the city, a long, confident line that connects Araras with the rest of the state.
