Te mapa
Piracicaba lies in the interior of São Paulo state, and its defining feature is the river that shares its name. The Piracicaba River runs straight through the city, with a set of rocky rapids and falls, the Salto, close to the historic centre. From above, the river cuts the urban area in two, with bridges linking the neighbourhoods on each bank.
The waterfront has long been the heart of local life. The Rua do Porto, along the riverbank, is known for its restaurants and views of the falls. The city grew as a centre of sugar cane and remains home to ESALQ, the University of São Paulo's renowned school of agriculture, whose large campus occupies a green area of the city.
A Piracicaba map poster centres on the river and its falls. The water forms a broad, winding band through the middle of the composition, the historic grid rises on one bank, and the city spreads outward in all directions across the gently rolling farmland of the São Paulo interior.
The Piracicaba River crosses the city with rapids near the centre, a wide natural line that divides the map and gives it its main focus.
The riverside street follows the bank opposite the falls, marking the historic meeting point between the city and its river.
The agricultural school's extensive grounds form a large open, landscaped area within the urban fabric, distinct from the surrounding blocks.

Koteā ko Piracicaba
For anyone who has lived in Piracicaba, the river is the city, and a map that places it at the centre feels right. Former ESALQ students often choose it as a memento of their university years.
