Benito Juarez is one of the sixteen boroughs of Mexico City, just south of the historic centre. Its map is a patchwork of colonias, each laid out on its own grid and joined to the others by some of the city's busiest roads. Insurgentes Sur runs the length of the borough, the Viaducto marks much of its northern edge, and the Circuito Interior follows part of its western boundary.
The borough is largely residential. Neighbourhoods such as Del Valle, Narvarte, Portales and Nápoles were built out over the twentieth century. Landmarks include the World Trade Center tower with the Polyforum Siqueiros at its foot. There is also the Plaza México bullring next to the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, two large oval shapes that stand out clearly among the blocks.
Parks break up the grid. The best known is Parque Hundido, a sunken park laid out on the site of an old brickworks, and smaller squares sit at the centre of several colonias. A Benito Juarez map poster renders the borough as a dense, orderly field of streets framed by expressways, with Insurgentes running straight through it.
Mexico City's longest avenue runs straight through the borough from north to south. It is a strong central line that splits the grid into two halves.
This sunken park sits below street level on the site of an old brickworks. Its winding paths form a soft green shape among the straight blocks of the neighbourhoods around it.
Each neighbourhood keeps its own orientation, so the street grid changes angle from one colonia to the next. From above, this creates a subtle patchwork.

Koteā ko Benito Juarez
Many people in Mexico City describe themselves by their colonia, and Benito Juarez holds some of the most loved ones. A poster centred on Del Valle, Narvarte or Portales makes a quiet tribute to home. Personalise the title and subtitle, and use the coordinates of your building.
