Te mapa
Caniço lies on the south coast of Madeira, east of Funchal, in the municipality of Santa Cruz. The land rises steeply from the sea. On the map, roads zigzag up the hillside, and houses cluster on terraces between them. Caniço de Baixo spreads along the lower slopes near the cliffs, while the upper town extends inland.
Among the area's best-known sights is the Cristo Rei statue on Ponta do Garajau, a headland overlooking the ocean. The waters below it are protected as a marine reserve. In recent decades Caniço has grown into a residential and holiday area, attracting both local families and visitors.
A Caniço map poster conveys the vertical character of Madeira. The winding roads trace the island's contours, the coastline forms a hard edge of cliff and rock, and the Atlantic fills the lower part of the image. It is a lively, textured composition.

Roads switch back and forth up the steep slopes. They show how streets have to adapt to Madeira's dramatic terrain.
Along the shore, steep cliffs and small coves mark the boundary between the island and the Atlantic. It's a strong, irregular line.

Koteā ko Caniço
Caniço attracts people who have spent holidays by its cliffs or live on its hillside streets. The map is a reminder of the sea air and the steep roads, and of the island light seen from the terraces.
