Te mapa
Chegutu lies in Mashonaland West, southwest of Harare, on the main road and railway that link the capital with Bulawayo. It was known as Hartley during the colonial period and took its current name in the early 1980s. On the map, the town is a modest grid of streets aligned along these transport routes, with residential areas spreading to either side.
The Mupfure River flows near the town, its winding course a soft contrast to the straight lines of the road and railway. The surrounding land is farming country, and beyond the built-up area the map opens into large fields and scattered homesteads, crossed by a few long rural roads that run toward neighbouring towns and farms.
A Chegutu map poster has a clear and legible structure: a planned town centre, the long parallel lines of road and rail, the looser layout of the suburbs, and the river drawn across the landscape. It is an understated map, and that restraint suits the black-and-white styles particularly well.
The main Harare–Bulawayo road and the railway pass through the town side by side, two strong lines that give Chegutu's map its direction and structure.
The central streets form a small planned grid, with the commercial centre and older residential areas arranged in regular blocks along the main routes.
The river winds through the countryside near town, a natural, curving line that breaks the geometry of the roads and adds movement to the map.
