Te mapa
Curridabat sits just east of central San José, in Costa Rica's Central Valley, where the capital's streets run into the foothills that frame the valley. From above, the canton is a tight mix of residential neighbourhoods, commercial avenues and small green spaces. The street pattern is irregular and shaped by slopes and ravines as much as by planning.
The municipality has become known internationally for its Ciudad Dulce, or Sweet City, programme. This urban policy places pollinators, trees and green corridors at the centre of city planning, and it treats bees and other species as part of the community. On the map, parks, gardens and wooded stream beds thread through the built-up area.
A Curridabat map poster shows a suburb that is neither strict grid nor loose sprawl. Main roads toward San José and toward Tres Ríos cross it, and between them lies a web of neighbourhoods broken by ravines. It is a detailed, lively print, fitting for a place that thinks carefully about its own shape.
Major roads linking San José with the eastern valley cross Curridabat and form the strongest lines in its street network.
Small wooded watercourses cut through the neighbourhoods, bending streets around them and adding soft green seams to the map.
Parks, gardens and planted corridors, supported by the municipality's pollinator-focused planning, are scattered throughout the built-up area.
