Te mapa
Deer Park is a city in Harris County, Texas, east of Houston along the Houston Ship Channel. The petrochemical industry shapes the city, with large refinery and chemical plant complexes along its northern edge. The city calls itself the Birthplace of Texas, a reference to the nearby San Jacinto Battleground, where the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution was fought in 1836.
On the map, industry and housing sit side by side in sharp contrast. Along the ship channel, plants spread out in large blocks of tanks, pipes and internal roads, forming dense geometric shapes. South of them, the residential city follows a fairly regular grid of streets, broken by schools, parks and drainage channels. Major highways cross the area and link it to Pasadena and La Porte.
A Deer Park map poster works because of that mix. The fine detail of the industrial sites sits next to the calmer pattern of neighbourhood streets, with the ship channel at the edge. It suits families who have lived here for generations, plant workers and anyone who grew up in sight of the refinery lights.
The channel runs along the northern side of the city. This broad band of water frames the industrial area and gives the poster its strongest edge.
Refineries and chemical plants cover large tracts near the water. Their internal roads and tank farms create intricate patterns quite unlike ordinary streets.
Most of Deer Park's homes sit on a regular grid of streets south of the industrial zone. Parks and schools are spread fairly evenly between them.
