Te mapa
From above, Diamniadio looks unfinished, and that is its point. Wide avenues and large rectangular blocks have been cut into open ground about thirty kilometres east of central Dakar. Several of these plots are already filled with large civic buildings. Others are still empty lots waiting for the next phase. The street pattern is loose and generous, closer to a master plan than to the dense, incremental fabric of the older Dakar suburbs.
Diamniadio was chosen as one of Senegal's new urban poles, meant to take pressure off the crowded Cap-Vert peninsula. The Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre and the Dakar Arena stand here, and the Train Express Régional connects the area with the capital. The international airport at Diass lies further along the same corridor, which explains the heavy lines of the motorways that frame the district.
A Diamniadio map poster records a city in the middle of being built. The finished avenues, half-drawn blocks and older villages around the edges all sit on the same sheet. In black and white, the contrast between the planned grid and the irregular settlements around it is easy to see. Anyone who watched the district grow may later want to compare it with how it looks from above years from now.
Broad, deliberately spaced roads divide the ground into large parcels. The resulting geometry is sparse and very regular compared with the tight lanes of neighbouring towns.
The toll motorway linking Dakar with the airport and the interior runs past the district. On the map it is a strong line that the new blocks are arranged around.
The conference centre and the Dakar Arena occupy large footprints. They show up as bold, clean shapes among the smaller street blocks.

Koteā ko Diamniadio
Some people hang Diamniadio because they work, study or live in the new city and want a record of a place still taking shape. Others see it as a symbol of Senegal's ambitions for the next few decades.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with the year you moved in. The map comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. It is available as a digital HD file or a printed poster.
