Te mapa
Dickinson lies in Galveston County, Texas, on the flat coastal prairie between Houston and Galveston. Interstate 45 runs along the town in a straight line, and a mix of older grid streets, suburban loops and open lots spreads out from it on both sides.
The defining feature of the map is Dickinson Bayou. It winds eastward through the town in tight bends and loops before widening into Dickinson Bay, an arm of Galveston Bay. Many streets end at its wooded banks, and the water's curves contrast sharply with the straight highway and railway lines.
A Dickinson map poster brings out that contrast between the engineered and the natural: the interstate and the rail line against a slow, meandering bayou. The town has a long connection to that water, and its low, flat setting has made flooding a recurring part of local life.
The bayou coils across the map in sharp meanders and loops, the most organic line in an otherwise flat and orderly landscape.
The highway between Houston and Galveston cuts straight past the town, a strong diagonal that anchors the composition.
To the east, the bayou broadens into Dickinson Bay and the land fades into marsh and open water.

A map of Dickinson suits anyone who has lived along the bayou, fished its bends or commuted along I-45. It shows the town as a single place rather than as a stretch of highway.
