Te mapa
Dzerzhinskiy is a town in Moscow Oblast, immediately south-east of Moscow beyond the MKAD ring road. It lies on the left bank of the Moskva River, which loops around it on the south and east. Although it looks like a suburb on a large-scale map, it has its own clearly defined shape, bounded by river, highways and industrial land.
The town grew around the Nikolo-Ugreshsky Monastery, a large walled complex whose foundation is traditionally linked to Prince Dmitry Donskoy in the fourteenth century. On the map the monastery is a distinct enclosed block near the river, surrounded by the blocks of Soviet and post-Soviet housing that make up most of the town today.
A Dzerzhinskiy map poster captures an unusual mix: an old monastic ensemble, mid-century apartment districts, the curve of the Moskva and the heavy lines of the ring road and power infrastructure nearby. In black and white, the contrast between the regular housing blocks and the flowing river is especially clear.
The walled monastery sits near the river as a compact, enclosed shape, the historic core around which the town gradually developed.
The river curves around the southern and eastern edges of the town, drawing a clear natural boundary that separates it from Lytkarino and the land beyond.
To the north-west, the Moscow ring road and its interchanges form a hard line, marking where the capital ends and the town begins.

Koteā ko Dzerzhinskiy
Dzerzhinskiy is home to many people who commute into Moscow yet feel they live somewhere distinct. A poster of its streets, river and monastery acknowledges that separate identity.
