Te mapa
East Moline is one of the Quad Cities on the Illinois side of the Mississippi, between Moline and Silvis. Here the river runs roughly from east to west, so the city stretches along its southern bank in a long band. On a map, the broad water, the islands in the channel and the Iowa shore opposite give the design a strong horizontal frame.
The street pattern is mostly a grid, set back from the shoreline and tilted slightly to follow the river. Older neighbourhoods near the centre have tight blocks, while newer areas to the south and east open out into larger lots and curving roads. Rail lines and industrial land along the river add long, straight lines to the composition.
East Moline has long been linked to farm machinery, and John Deere's Harvester Works is located in the city. An East Moline map poster reflects that combination of river, industry and residential grid, a pattern typical of Upper Mississippi towns but distinctive in its detail.
The river runs along the city's northern edge, and because it flows east to west here, it forms a wide horizontal band across the poster.
Wooded islands in the channel break up the water into separate strands, adding natural, irregular shapes to an otherwise straight shoreline.
Rail lines and large factory sites along the river, including the harvester works, show as broad, simple blocks next to the finer residential grid.
