Fomboni Map Poster & Print

Fomboni is the main town of Mohéli, or Mwali, the smallest of the three islands of the Union of the Comoros. From above, the town lies along the northern coast, its streets spread out behind the shoreline, with the green, hilly interior of the island rising to the south.

The layout is modest and closely linked to the sea: a harbour area, a waterfront road and residential quarters of narrow streets extending inland. Mohéli is known for its marine park, whose protected waters and beaches, used by nesting sea turtles, lie along the south of the island.

A Fomboni map poster shows the town between ocean and hills, in the simple, clean lines of the black and white style. It is a quiet, personal picture of an island capital that rarely appears in detail on any map.

01

Northern coast

The town runs along Mohéli's north shore, and the Indian Ocean coastline forms the defining edge of the map, with reefs and beaches along it.

02

Harbour area

A small port serves the town and connects the island with the rest of the Comoros, a key point where the street network meets the water.

03

Green interior

South of the town, the land rises into the forested, hilly interior of the island, leaving the map's upper part open and lightly marked.

Koteā ko Fomboni

He mapa ʻe maʻuhiga

For Mohélians and the Comorian diaspora in France and elsewhere, Fomboni is a place of family and origin. A map of the town is a calm, lasting way to keep it in view, far from the island.
