Te mapa
Gimcheon lies in the west of North Gyeongsang Province, in a basin enclosed by mountains of the Sobaek range. The Gamcheon river flows through the city, and on a map its channel and embankments form a long open line between districts. The older centre grew up near the river and the railway station, with farmland and orchards filling the valleys around it.
Gimcheon has long been a junction on the Gyeongbu railway, and a KTX station now serves the city and neighbouring Gumi. Several public institutions, including the Korea Expressway Corporation, moved their headquarters to Gimcheon's Innovation City in the 2010s. West of the city, in the forests of Hwangaksan, stands Jikjisa, one of Korea's major Buddhist temples.
A Gimcheon map poster shows a city in two parts: the older centre with its denser, irregular streets beside the river and railway, and the planned grid of the innovation district to the southeast, laid out around wide roads and parks. Hills fill the edges of the sheet, while valley farmland, known for grapes and plums, softens the outskirts.
The river runs through the city in a broad, gently curving channel, its banks forming an open corridor between the older neighbourhoods.
A planned district of wide roads, regular blocks and green space, home to relocated public institutions and the KTX station, with a clearly modern geometry.
The temple sits in wooded mountain valleys west of the city, where roads thin into narrow lines winding through steep, forested terrain.

Koteā ko Gimcheon
Gimcheon connects many kinds of lives: families rooted in its farms and orchards, newcomers who arrived with the relocated institutions, visitors drawn to Jikjisa. A map of the city gives each of them a way to remember it.
