Te mapa
Chinju, now usually written Jinju, is built along the Nam River, which bends through the city from west to east. The historic centre sits on the northern bank, and Jinjuseong Fortress rises on a bluff directly above the water. On the map, the river is the main structure, with bridges crossing it and neighbourhoods spreading into the valleys and hills on both sides.
The fortress was the site of two major sieges during the Japanese invasions of the 1590s. The story of Nongae, who is said to have leapt into the river from a rock below the walls while holding a Japanese general, is still told in the city. In autumn, the Namgang Yudeung festival floats thousands of lanterns on the river beneath the fortress.
A Chinju map poster uses the river's broad curve as its central line, with the fortress walls clearly visible on the northern bank. The surrounding hills break up the edges of the built-up area. It is a composition shaped by water and history, and it suits anyone connected to this southern city.
The fortress walls follow the edge of the bluff above the river, forming a compact enclosed shape at the heart of the old city.
The wide river curves through the city from west to east, with bridges linking its two banks and parks along its shores.
Neighbourhoods reach into the valleys between surrounding hills, so the built-up area has an uneven, branching outline on the map.

Koteā ko Chinju
For people from Chinju, the lanterns on the river and the fortress walls are part of shared memory. A map with a personalised title, a family name or the date of a festival visit makes an especially meaningful gift.
Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir makes the river look like a lit band at night. The $9 HD files have no watermark, and matte posters, optionally framed, are shipped from partners in more than 30 countries.
