Te mapa
Đống Đa lies in the heart of Hanoi, southwest of the Old Quarter, and it is among the most densely built parts of the city. From above, its main roads form an uneven frame, and inside each block lies a maze of narrow alleys, the ngõ and ngách that are characteristic of Hanoi's residential fabric.
The district takes its name from the Battle of Đống Đa in 1789, when the forces of Quang Trung defeated a Qing army near this site. Its best-known landmark is Văn Miếu, the Temple of Literature, founded in the eleventh century as a temple to Confucius and later home to Vietnam's first national university.
A Đống Đa map poster turns this density into a rich graphic pattern. The rectangular enclosure of the temple, a scattering of small lakes and the long lines of major roads stand out against the fine, intricate web of alleys.
Văn Miếu appears as a long rectangular enclosure of walls and courtyards, a calm geometric shape within the dense surrounding streets, and one of Hanoi's oldest landmarks.
Inside the blocks, countless narrow lanes branch and twist, creating an extremely fine texture that gives the map its detail and depth.
Scattered ponds and lakes break up the density with smooth open shapes, as they do throughout Hanoi, offering natural pauses in the composition.
