Te mapa
Harvey lies just south of Chicago in Cook County, and its streets continue the rigid grid that defines the region. On a map the town is a dense pattern of rectangular blocks. Rail corridors, industrial plots and expressways break it up, and the Little Calumet River curves along its northern side.
The city was founded in the early 1890s by the lumber merchant Turlington Harvey as a planned temperance town, where the land deeds banned the sale of alcohol. Its place on major rail lines drew factories, and it grew into an industrial suburb serving the manufacturing economy of the Chicago area.
A Harvey map poster brings out the precision of the midwestern grid. Rail lines slice through it at angles, the river adds a single soft curve, and expressways form strong straight lines across the frame. It is a graphic, architectural image for anyone who appreciates the structure of American industrial towns.

Several rail lines cross the city. They cut through the grid and mark where factories and freight yards once shaped its growth.
The river winds along the northern edge of town, the one natural, irregular curve in an otherwise straight-edged and orderly map.

Koteā ko Harvey
Harvey is home to long-established families and to people who grew up in the south suburbs and moved on. A map of its grid is a direct, unsentimental way to keep a link to the neighbourhood and its streets.
Change the title and subtitle to mark a family name, a street or a year, and edit the coordinates line. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The grid looks particularly sharp in Noir.
