Te mapa
Hashimoto sits in the northeast of Wakayama Prefecture, in the valley of the Kinokawa River. The terrain decides its shape. Built-up areas run in a long ribbon beside the river, and forested hills rise on both sides. From above, the town is a narrow band of streets following the water, not a round city with a centre.
The town has long been a stop on the way to Mount Kōya, the mountain monastery complex founded by the monk Kūkai. Railway lines meet here and roads branch into the hills. That gives Hashimoto the feel of a threshold between the lowland valley and the sacred mountain country to the south.
A Hashimoto map poster shows the Kinokawa as a broad, calm curve, with streets packed along its banks. Toward the edges, residential streets reach up into the slopes. Where they stop, the forest begins, and in monochrome that becomes a clear boundary.
The wide river runs east to west through the town and anchors the whole composition. Bridges cross it at intervals and stitch the two banks together.
Hills on both sides keep development linear. The streets spread along the valley floor in a long band, not in rings around a centre.
Rail and road routes leave the valley here and climb toward Mount Kōya. On the map they are thin lines winding off into the uplands.

Koteā ko Hashimoto
Hashimoto means something to people who grew up in the Kinokawa valley, and to travellers who passed through on the way to Kōyasan. Its river-and-ridge outline is simple, and it is easy to remember.
Add a title in your own words, a date that matters to you or the coordinates line, and choose Classic, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the river's clean curve particularly well.
