Hauppauge is a hamlet in Suffolk County in the centre of Long Island. It spans parts of the towns of Smithtown and Islip. From above, it combines two very different patterns. Curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs fill the neighbourhoods, while a large industrial park lays out broad blocks with long, straight roads.
The Hauppauge Industrial Park is one of the largest of its kind in the United States, and it defines much of the map. Suffolk County government offices are also based here. The Long Island Expressway and several state roads cross the area, and the headwaters of the Nissequogue River lie in the wooded land nearby.
