Te mapa
Hokuto lies in southern Hokkaido, directly west of Hakodate, and was formed in 2006 when the towns of Kamiiso and Ono merged. The map shows two distinct characters: a built-up area along the shore of Hakodate Bay in the south, and a broader, more open landscape of fields and scattered settlement extending north towards the mountains.
The city gained national attention in 2016 when Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station opened as the northern terminus of the Hokkaido Shinkansen, linking the island to Honshu by high-speed rail through the Seikan Tunnel. On the map, the railway lines form clear strokes across the plain, joining the coastal districts, the station area and the city's farming hinterland.
A Hokuto map poster works as a portrait of the edge between sea, farmland and mountain. The regular rectangles of fields and the grid of residential streets near the coast give way to a looser pattern inland, where roads follow valleys into wooded hills. It is a spacious composition, with the bay providing a calm, open edge along the bottom.
The southern edge of the city meets the water of Hakodate Bay, a smooth coastline that gives the poster a strong horizontal base line.
Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, the gateway to Hokkaido by high-speed rail since 2016, sits in the central plain where rail lines converge across the farmland.
North of the coast, a patchwork of agricultural plots and roads fans out across the plain before narrowing into valleys that lead towards forested mountains.

Koteā ko Hokuto
Hokuto is a meaningful map for those who live in the Hakodate area, travelled north on the Shinkansen or have family roots in Kamiiso or Ono. The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, for instance with a date of arrival.
Select from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Paper suits the farmland patchwork, while Noir sharpens the coastline. Digital files for $9 include six sizes, among them A2 and 24×36″, each as a 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF.
