Te mapa
Hormuz Island lies in the Strait of Hormuz, a short boat ride off the Iranian coast near Bandar Abbas. From above it is compact and roughly oval, with a single town gathered on the northern shore and a largely empty interior. Few roads cross the island; most follow the coastline, looping around coves, headlands and beaches.
The island is a salt dome, and its soils are famous for their colours: red, ochre, yellow and white minerals exposed in valleys and hillsides. The red earth is gathered locally and even used in cooking. On a black-and-white map those colours disappear, but the rough, eroded terrain still decides where roads and paths can go.
On the northern point stand the ruins of a Portuguese fortress, built in the early sixteenth century when Hormuz controlled trade through the Gulf. The town grew around it and the harbour facing the mainland. A Hormuz Island map poster shows how small the island is, and how firmly its settlement is fixed to that one strategic point.
The island's only town lies on the north coast, facing the mainland. Its streets form a small, dense cluster on the poster, in contrast with the empty land to the south.
The fortress ruins sit on the northern tip, a small promontory reaching into the sea. On the map it marks the point where the island's roads and history converge.
A road runs around much of the island's shoreline, linking beaches and viewpoints. On the poster it traces the rounded outline like a second, inner coast.

Koteā ko Hormuz Island
Hormuz draws travellers for its coloured landscapes and its position on one of the world's most important waterways. The poster turns a place of intense colour into a quiet graphic outline, a contrast many people find appealing.
