Huinan is a county in Tonghua, in the south of Jilin Province in north-east China. The town sits in a valley among the forested hills that lead toward the Changbai Mountains. From above, the map is a compact grid in the flatter ground, with streets bending as they reach the slopes and roads leading away through the valleys.
Rivers cross the area, and farmland covers the valley floors, with long fields between wooded ridges. The town itself mixes older blocks with newer residential districts and wide main roads. The railway passes through the valley too, adding another straight line to the pattern.
Huinan is known for the Longwan area, where volcanic activity left a group of crater lakes set in forest, now protected as a national forest park.
