Te mapa
Ikom sits in the east of Cross River State, close to the border with Cameroon. From above, the most obvious feature is the Cross River itself. It swings past the town in a broad curve, and the streets gather on its bank instead of spreading into a regular grid. Main roads leave in several directions, and the smaller lanes between them follow the ground and the older paths.
A black-and-white rendering suits a place like this. Without the green of the surrounding forest and farmland, you can see the plan more clearly: one river, a bridge carrying the highway across, and a town that grew around a crossing point. The river's wide, pale shape takes up a large part of the frame, and the built-up area thins out quickly towards the edges.
The Ikom area is widely known for the carved stone monoliths of the surrounding Bakor communities. These basalt figures, marked with faces and geometric patterns, count among the notable archaeological heritage of West Africa. An Ikom map poster does not picture them. It records the river town that serves as the gateway to that landscape and to the road east.
The river passes Ikom as a wide curving band. On the poster it is the largest shape in the composition, and the town clearly lies along one bank.
A highway bridge takes the road over the river. It shows as a thin straight line across open water, and it explains why the town grew exactly here.
Several main roads leave the centre towards the border, the state interior and neighbouring towns. They form a loose star that thins into countryside at the edges of the frame.

Koteā ko Ikom
Ikom tends to be home to people who know it through family, trade or a posting in the east of the state. The poster puts the river, the bridge and the familiar roads into one quiet image that holds up well on a wall far from Cross River.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, so the print can mark a hometown, a wedding or a year spent there. It comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
