Te mapa
Iksan lies on the broad, fertile plain of North Jeolla, where rice fields stretch between low hills. The modern centre developed around a major railway junction, where the Honam and Jeolla lines meet, and the city's streets spread out from the station. On the map, the dense centre gives way quickly to farmland, reservoirs and villages.
The city was formed in 1995 when the town of Iri merged with Iksan County. In the countryside to the north are the Mireuksa temple site, with its restored Baekje stone pagoda, and the Wanggung-ri palace site. Both are part of the UNESCO-listed Baekje Historic Areas, giving the quiet landscape an important historical dimension.
An Iksan map poster shows a railway town in the middle of a farming plain. The tracks form strong lines through the centre, the reservoirs and paddies create open space, and the heritage sites sit among the fields. It suits people who know Iksan both as a transport hub and as a place with deep Baekje roots.
Main lines meet at Iksan station, and the tracks and rail yards cross the centre as some of the strongest lines on the map.
The site of one of Baekje's largest temples lies at the foot of a hill north of the city, surrounded by fields.
Rice paddies and small reservoirs surround the urban area, creating a large, open field in which the town stands out clearly.
