Te mapa
Lake Jackson is in Brazoria County on the Texas Gulf Coast, near the lower Brazos River. It was planned in the early 1940s for workers at the nearby Dow Chemical plant, and the architect Alden B. Dow shaped its layout. From above, it looks quite unlike a typical Texas grid, with streets that curve and loop through the town.
The plan was designed to preserve the area's large oak trees, and many streets bend around them. Some roads have playful names, such as This Way and That Way, which have become a small local legend. Small lakes, bayous and parks weave through the residential areas, and the Brazos and the Gulf are close by.
As a print, Lake Jackson shows a carefully designed town with an organic look: looping streets, shaded blocks and water scattered across the plan. A Lake Jackson map poster suits residents, former Dow families and anyone interested in American town planning at a small, human scale.
Designed by Alden B. Dow, the streets bend and loop around old oak trees, creating an organic pattern very different from a regular grid.
Two streets with these names are among the town's best-known quirks, part of a planned layout with a sense of humour.
Small lakes and waterways appear among the residential blocks, adding soft, irregular shapes to the map.

Koteā ko Lake Jackson
A planned town shows its ideas clearly from above, and Lake Jackson is a good example. For families who have lived here for generations or moved for work, the map is both a record of home and an interesting piece of design.
