Te mapa
Machipanda lies in Manica Province in western Mozambique, right on the border with Zimbabwe, opposite the Forbes border post near the city of Mutare. The terrain here rises toward the eastern highlands, and the town's map is shaped by hills and valleys rather than a regular grid, with streets following the land on either side of the main road.
The town exists largely because of the Beira corridor, the historic transport route linking the port of Beira on the Indian Ocean with Zimbabwe and the interior beyond. Both the main highway and the railway pass through Machipanda to reach the frontier, and the crossing here is one of the principal gateways between the two countries.
A Machipanda map poster tells the story of a place defined by movement. The long lines of road and rail run through the composition toward the border, while smaller streets and tracks branch into the surrounding hills. It is a map of a frontier town, of arrivals and departures, and of the connection between coast and interior.
The frontier with Zimbabwe marks the western edge of town, and the road leading to the crossing is the strongest and most purposeful line on the map.
The railway from the coast climbs through the area toward Mutare, adding a second long line that runs broadly alongside the main road.
Surrounding hills shape the town's layout, so streets bend and branch rather than forming a grid, giving the poster a loose, organic pattern.
