Te mapa
Maevatanana is the capital of the Betsiboka region in northwestern Madagascar. It lies on the national highway linking Antananarivo with the port of Mahajanga. The town sits beside the Ikopa River, and the broad, sandy channel of the river is one of the most notable shapes on the map. The climate is hot, and the surrounding land is dry, open grassland and low hills.
The area has a long association with gold mining, which drew people to Maevatanana in the colonial period and still shapes parts of the local economy. The town itself is small and irregular. Its streets are arranged along the highway and down towards the river, with houses spreading into the surrounding slopes.
A Maevatanana map poster pairs a small street network with the strong lines of river and road. The highway passes straight through, the Ikopa curves beside it, and open country stretches out on all sides. It is a clear, uncluttered composition that shows a crossroads town in a large, lightly settled landscape.
The wide river channel runs beside the town, with sandbars and braided water. It is the most substantial natural shape in the frame.
The main road from Antananarivo to Mahajanga passes through Maevatanana. It is a strong line that has shaped where the town grew and how it connects to the rest of the island.
Low, dry hills and grassland surround the town. Few roads cross them, which gives the edges of the map a sparse, spacious character.

Maevatanana is a waypoint for many travellers between the capital and the coast, and home for many more. A map poster records that place quietly, as a keepsake of a journey or a reminder of family.
