Te mapa
Makubetsu is a town on Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost main island. Settlement came relatively late here, and much of the countryside was laid out with a surveyor's discipline. From above, the result is a landscape of long straight roads and wide rectangular fields. The town itself forms a denser cluster of streets where these lines converge.
Farming defines the surroundings. Large plots stretch in every direction, divided by windbreaks, drainage channels and farm roads. This regularity is quite different from the tighter, more organic patterns of older towns further south in Japan. Rivers and streams cut across the geometry at their own angles, adding softer curves to an otherwise orderly composition.
A Makubetsu map poster is a study in open space. The town centre gives the design its weight, while the field grid around it creates a calm rhythm of lines that looks especially clean in black and white. It suits anyone who values the quiet scale of rural Hokkaido, with its long horizons and generous farmland.
Straight farm roads and rectangular plots extend outward from the town. This pattern is typical of Hokkaido's planned farm settlements and stands out in fine line work.
Streets tighten where the main roads meet, creating the densest area of the map and a natural focal point within the wide open farmland.
Streams and drainage channels cross the orderly fields at their own angles, bringing curves into a composition otherwise ruled by straight lines.
