Te mapa
Marikina lies in a valley on the eastern side of Metro Manila, and the Marikina River runs through it from north to south. On the map the river is the centre line of the city, bordered by a long band of parks, sports fields and walkways, while neighbourhoods spread out on both banks toward the higher ground at the valley edges.
The Sierra Madre foothills rise to the east in Rizal province, and the Quezon City plateau lies to the west, so the city is framed by slopes on two sides. Its streets form a fairly regular pattern of blocks and main roads, and Marikina is known for its network of dedicated bike lanes, unusual among Philippine cities.
Marikina has long been called the shoe capital of the Philippines, and its footwear industry and shoe museum remain part of its identity. The city also sits along the Marikina Valley Fault and was badly flooded during Typhoon Ketsana in 2009. A Marikina City map poster shows the river, the valley and the grid between them.
The river flows through the middle of the city, lined for kilometres by the Marikina River Park, a green corridor that runs almost the full length of the map.
Hills rise on both sides, with Rizal province to the east and Quezon City to the west, giving the city a clear sense of enclosure from above.
Dedicated cycle lanes follow many main roads across the city, a feature that reflects its long focus on orderly streets and public space.

Koteā ko Marikina City
Marikina has a strong local identity within Metro Manila, and many residents are proud of its clean streets, its riverbanks and its shoemaking heritage. A map of the valley makes a thoughtful present for a family home or a new apartment.
