Te mapa
San Mateo lies in the province of Rizal, just past the eastern edge of Metro Manila. The Marikina River flows through the town from the north, and its course sets the direction of much of the street network. Barangays spread along both banks across the valley floor. To the east the land climbs toward the Sierra Madre foothills, and the map grows quieter.
The town has long sat between city and upland. On the western side, subdivisions, main roads and river crossings link it to Quezon City and Marikina. The eastern side keeps a looser pattern of winding roads that follow the terrain. San Mateo is one of the older towns in the region and dates from the Spanish colonial period.
A San Mateo map poster shows the shift from dense to open in one image. Tight residential blocks sit near the river, bridges join the two banks, and roads thin out as they head into the hills. The map has a clear sense of edge and suits anyone who knows the daily trip along the river.
The river enters from the north and runs through the heart of town. It forms a single winding line, and the barangays and main roads follow it on either side.
On the eastern side the ground rises and the street grid breaks into curving roads and scattered settlements. This gives the map an open, uneven border.
To the west, roads and subdivisions merge with Quezon City and Marikina. The map shows how San Mateo joins the capital's continuous built-up area.
