Te mapa
Masatepe lies on the Meseta de los Pueblos, the upland plateau of Masaya Department, south of Managua. On the map the town is a regular grid of streets and blocks around a central plaza and church. Farmland and small wooded plots stretch out across the plateau around it, and in some directions the neighbouring towns are only a short way off.
The layout follows the colonial pattern common across the region: straight streets meeting at right angles, a clear main square, and main roads leading out to the neighbouring pueblos. Beyond the grid, rural roads and paths cross the plateau, and patches of farmland and trees give the edges of the map a softer, less formal texture.
Masatepe is known throughout Nicaragua for its furniture makers, especially their wooden and wicker rocking chairs, and for sopa de mondongo, a traditional tripe soup. A Masatepe map poster shows a town with a tidy centre that fades into the fields of the plateau, and the roads out to the other pueblos run off the edges of the frame.
The main square and church sit at the heart of the grid, an open space from which the streets run out in straight lines in every direction.
The town's regular blocks form a clean geometric pattern typical of the Meseta de los Pueblos. It stays easy to read at any size, from A3 to 50×70 cm.
Main roads link Masatepe with the other towns across the plateau, drawing long lines through farmland and wooded plots.
