Te mapa
Rajpura lies on the flat plains of eastern Punjab, in Patiala district, where there is no hill or river to bend the streets. On a map the town is defined by transport. The railway lines meet at Rajpura Junction, and the main national highway toward Ambala and Delhi passes close by. The town has grown in the spaces between these lines.
Much of modern Rajpura was built after Partition in 1947, when a new township was laid out to house refugees arriving from the west. That planned origin can still be seen in the more regular blocks, which sit next to older, less orderly neighbourhoods. A Rajpura map poster shows both kinds of layout, divided by the railway tracks.
Around the built-up area, the agricultural land of Punjab stretches out in large rectangular fields, with irrigation channels and village roads running across it. The town's position between Patiala, Chandigarh and Ambala has made it a busy crossing point, and industry has gathered along the approach roads. From above, it reads as a junction town, shaped by the routes that meet there.
Rail lines converge at Rajpura Junction and cut across the town. The tracks are the map's most prominent lines and separate one district from the next.
Areas laid out after 1947 to house refugees show a more regular block pattern, a clear contrast with the looser streets of the older settlement.
The national highway runs along the town's edge, a long straight line linking Rajpura to Ambala and the cities further along the plain.

Koteā ko Rajpura
Many families trace their Punjab story back to Rajpura's post-Partition township, and a map of those streets can mean a great deal to them. It suits someone who grew up here or whose grandparents first settled here.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can all be edited, for example with a family name or a year of arrival. Choose from five styles, from Classic black & white to the softer Sand or the technical Blueprint.
