Te mapa
Salaga is the capital of the East Gonja area in Ghana's Savannah Region. The land around it is wide and gently rolling, covered in grassland and scattered trees. On the map the town is a compact centre with roads leaving in several directions, a shape that fits a place that for centuries was defined by the routes converging on it.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries Salaga was one of the major markets of West Africa, known for the kola nut trade and, painfully, as a centre of the slave trade. Sites connected with that history, including the wells used at the old market, are preserved and visited today. The town's layout still carries the memory of a place built around exchange.
A Salaga map poster holds that history quietly. The lines of the streets and the long roads out into the savanna are shown without decoration, leaving room for the viewer's own knowledge of the place. It is a subject that suits a reflective setting, and the Paper and Sand styles bring out its understated tone.
The densest streets collect around the historic market area, where roads from surrounding districts come together in a compact core.
Several long routes run outward across the savanna, forming a star-like pattern that recalls Salaga's role as a meeting point of trade routes.
Beyond the town the map opens into wide, lightly marked country, with isolated villages and tracks against a largely empty background.

Koteā ko Salaga
Salaga matters to people from the Gonja area, to the Ghanaian diaspora and to anyone who has studied or visited its historic sites. A map of the town is a way to keep that connection present, without spectacle.
