Te mapa
Savalou lies in the Collines department of central Benin, a region named for the rounded granite hills that rise out of the surrounding savanna. The town's streets are drawn around this uneven ground, so the plan is looser and more organic than that of towns on flatter land. Main roads run through the centre and continue across the region, connecting Savalou with neighbouring communities.
Savalou is the seat of a traditional kingdom and is known across Benin for its annual yam festival, held each August to celebrate the new harvest. The event draws visitors from around the country and reflects the importance of farming to the area. Beyond the town, fields, bush and scattered hamlets fill the landscape between the rocky hills.
A Savalou map poster shows the town as a knot of streets against open, gently broken terrain, with roads running off toward the surrounding villages. The contrast between the built-up centre and the wide land around it gives the print a sense of space, well suited to anyone with ties to the Collines region.
Rocky hills and outcrops surround the town and give the Collines department its name, bending roads and paths around them and leaving open areas on the map where nothing is built.
As the seat of the kingdom of Savalou, the town has a historic centre where the main streets converge, forming the densest and most detailed part of the map.
Routes leave the town across open savanna dotted with farms and small settlements, long lines that carry the eye from the centre to the edges of the poster.

Koteā ko Savalou
For families from Savalou, and for anyone who has attended the yam festival, the town's map carries real meaning. It is an understated way to mark a place of origin, a visit or a period of work in central Benin.
Write your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or a festival year, and add a date or custom coordinates line. The poster comes in five styles, Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, with Sand particularly suited to the warm savanna setting.
