Te mapa
Settsu is a small city in northern Osaka Prefecture, on the flat ground along the north bank of the Yodo River. On a map it is almost entirely built up, a tight mesh of residential streets, small factories and rail lines, set between the larger cities of Osaka to the south and Takatsuki and Kyoto to the northeast.
The Yodo River forms a broad edge along the city, with its wide channel and embankments appearing as a strong band on the map. Rail lines cut across the grid, and Settsu is home to the large Torikai depot of the Tokaido Shinkansen, a long field of parallel tracks that stands out clearly from above.
A Settsu map poster shows how compact Japanese suburbs fill every piece of available flat land. It suits people who have lived or worked here, rail enthusiasts interested in the Shinkansen depot and anyone who knows the corridor between Osaka and Kyoto well.
The wide river and its embankments run along the city's edge, forming the largest open shape in an otherwise dense map.
The Torikai base of the Tokaido Shinkansen occupies a long rectangle of parallel tracks, one of the most distinctive features of the city from above.
Small residential streets fill the flat land in a close, irregular pattern, typical of the suburbs that line the Osaka–Kyoto corridor.
