A smooth, gently curving coastline runs the full length of the town. It gives the poster a strong horizon line and a calm, open lower edge.

Te mapa
Shiraoi stretches along the Pacific coast of southern Hokkaido, between Tomakomai and Noboribetsu. On the map it is a thin, linear town: the shoreline on one side, the railway and coastal highway running parallel to it, and the built-up area threaded along those lines, backed by forested hills that rise towards the volcanic interior.
Shiraoi has long been a centre of Ainu culture. On the shore of Lake Poroto stands Upopoy, the National Ainu Museum and Park, which opened in 2020. The town is also known for Shiraoi beef, and small rivers run down from the hills to the sea at regular intervals.
A Shiraoi map poster emphasises that horizontal rhythm: sea, rail, road and town stacked in parallel bands, with the rounded shape of Lake Poroto set just inland. It makes a clean, wide composition that suits a landscape frame and recalls the open, windy feel of this coast.
A smooth, gently curving coastline runs the full length of the town. It gives the poster a strong horizon line and a calm, open lower edge.
This small lake sits just inland from the centre, with the Upopoy museum on its shore. It is the clearest rounded shape in an otherwise linear map.
The railway line and coastal road run side by side through town, drawing long parallel strokes that tie the settlement together from end to end.

Koteā ko Shiraoi
Shiraoi appeals to travellers who visited Upopoy or drove this coast, and to anyone with an interest in Ainu heritage. The long, banded layout also makes it a graphic, restful image for a living room.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised, for instance with the date of a trip. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper gives the coast a soft, printed-atlas look.
