Te mapa
Shōbara covers a large, mostly mountainous stretch of northern Hiroshima Prefecture. Its central town sits in a valley where rivers meet, with a compact cluster of streets, a railway line and roads that follow the valley floor. The rest of the city is a network of smaller communities strung along rivers and narrow valleys, separated by forested ridges.
The map is shaped as much by topography as by streets. Rice paddies fill nearly every flat piece of land, and roads bend to follow contours and streams. On the eastern side of the city lies Taishakukyo, a limestone gorge known for its natural stone bridge, Onbashi, and for autumn colours along its trail. The Chugoku Expressway crosses the area in a smooth line through the hills.
A Shōbara map poster suits those who grew up in the valleys of the Chugoku mountains or who know the region from walks in the gorge. The composition is delicate: a small urban centre surrounded by fine lines of rivers and rural roads, a portrait of a place where the landscape leads and the town follows.

A limestone gorge on the eastern side of the city, home to the natural stone arch of Onbashi, appears as a winding river line through steep wooded terrain.
Rivers and streams branch through the mountains, and the roads and villages that follow them create a delicate, branching pattern across the whole map.
