The Atlantic coast is a long, almost unbroken wall of rock, and Beinisvørð is among its highest points. On the map it is a clean, hard edge with nothing built beside it.

Te mapa
Suðuroy lies apart from the rest of the Faroes, separated from them by a wide stretch of open sea. From above it is a long island with two very different sides. The west coast is an almost continuous line of high cliffs facing the Atlantic. The east is cut by fjords and bays, and nearly all the villages and roads are there.
The two main settlements, Tvøroyri and Vágur, sit on eastern fjords. Their streets follow the water's edge and climb the lower slopes. A road runs from north to south, linking the villages through tunnels and over mountain passes. A Suðuroy map poster shows these inhabited fjords as a series of notches along one side of the island.
A car ferry from Tórshavn reaches the island in about two hours, docking at Krambatangi near Tvøroyri. Unusually for the Faroes, Suðuroy has a history of coal mining. On its west coast, the sea cliff of Beinisvørð rises several hundred metres straight out of the water.
The Atlantic coast is a long, almost unbroken wall of rock, and Beinisvørð is among its highest points. On the map it is a clean, hard edge with nothing built beside it.
The fjord where Tvøroyri stands reaches deep into the eastern side, with settlements along its shores. Together they form the island's largest concentration of streets.
Vágur, the island's other main village, wraps around a sheltered bay farther south. Its houses line the waterfront in a typical Faroese pattern on a small scale.

Koteā ko Suðuroy
Suðuroy has a strong local identity, and many people who grew up there carry that attachment to Tórshavn, Copenhagen and beyond. A map of the island, with the cliffs on one side and the home fjords on the other, is a direct way to keep that place in view.
Add a title in Faroese, a village name as the subtitle, or a date in the coordinates line. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Print it yourself from the $9 HD files, or order a matte poster with an optional wooden frame.
