Te mapa
Sumidouro lies in the mountainous interior of Rio de Janeiro state, in the region known as the Região Serrana. From above, the town is small and closely fitted to its setting. A handful of streets follow the valley floor and the river winding through it, while steep hillsides, part forest and part farmland, rise all around.
Agriculture shapes the surrounding map. The municipality is known for vegetable farming, and small plots and farm roads climb the slopes in irregular patterns. Rural communities are spread across the valleys beyond the town centre, linked by winding roads that trace the contours of the hills.
In Portuguese, a sumidouro is a sink or a place where water disappears, a fitting name for a landscape shaped by streams and valleys. A Sumidouro map poster keeps the focus on that close relationship between town and terrain: a compact centre, a meandering river and hills that fill the frame.
The main streets run along the valley floor beside the river, giving the town a compact, elongated shape surrounded on all sides by rising ground.
Small agricultural plots and rural roads cover the slopes around Sumidouro, producing an irregular, finely detailed texture across much of the map.
Roads to neighbouring towns in the Região Serrana curve and switch back through the hills, drawing long, sinuous lines that lead the eye across the poster.
