Te mapa
Terra Preta lies in the interior of São Paulo state in southeastern Brazil, in rolling country where towns, farms and roads share the landscape. The street map is modest: a cluster of residential blocks, a few connecting roads and open land around them. The pattern shows a place that has grown step by step rather than according to a single master plan.
The name means black earth in Portuguese, a reference to dark soil. The place itself is small and residential, part of a region where suburban housing and agriculture sit close together, and where roads link many small communities to larger towns nearby.
A Terra Preta map poster brings out the fine detail of that local network. With no dominant river or coast to organise the frame, the composition relies on the rhythm of blocks and streets and on the open ground in between. The result is understated, personal and easy to live with on a wall.
Housing is arranged in blocks of varying size and orientation, which gives the poster an irregular but even texture across the built-up area.
A few longer roads lead in and out, linking Terra Preta with the surrounding region. They cross the sheet as clean lines that frame the smaller streets.
Fields and undeveloped land around the community appear as quiet empty space. It gives the composition room and keeps the street pattern easy to read.
