Te mapa
The Woodlands was planned from scratch in the 1970s by developer George P. Mitchell, who aimed to build a community that preserved as much of the pine forest as possible. The result is a map unlike most American suburbs: curving parkways, winding residential streets and cul-de-sacs, organised into separate villages, all set within large areas of trees and green corridors.
At the centre, Lake Woodlands and The Woodlands Waterway form the core of the town centre, with offices, shops and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, an outdoor concert venue, nearby. Interstate 45 runs along the eastern side, forming a straight boundary against the curving internal street pattern.
A map poster of The Woodlands shows how planning can shape a place. The looping village streets, the lake and the waterway, and the forested spaces between neighbourhoods make an intricate composition. In black and white, the absence of a grid becomes the main feature, giving the design an organic, almost natural rhythm.
The man-made lake near the town centre forms a large, irregular shape on the map, with neighbourhoods and parks arranged along its winding shoreline.
A narrow canal connects the lake to the town centre, lined with walkways and buildings, adding a thin, straight line through the densest part of the community.
Each village has curving main roads and cul-de-sacs branching off them, creating a pattern of loops and dead ends that looks like leaf veins from above.

Koteā ko The Woodlands
Many families moved to The Woodlands for its schools, parks and forested streets, and a map of their village is a natural reminder of home. It is also a popular gift for new homeowners in the community.
