Te mapa
Tsaratanana is a town in the Betsiboka region of central-western Madagascar. It shouldn't be confused with the Tsaratanana Massif, the island's highest mountain range, which lies far to the north. The region takes its name from the Betsiboka River, one of Madagascar's major rivers, and much of the surrounding land is open, lightly settled country.
On a map the town is small and easy to take in. A modest core of streets gathers where roads meet, and beyond it the lines thin out quickly into tracks and open ground. There is a lot of empty space on a poster like this. That emptiness is honest, because it shows how isolated many inland towns in Madagascar are.
A Tsaratanana map poster is a personal object before anything else. It is for someone who lived, worked or grew up here, or who has family ties to the region. The black-and-white drawing keeps the town's actual shape, a small knot of streets with long roads running off towards the rest of the island.
The built-up area is small and concentrated. It reads on the poster as a tight cluster of streets with lots of open space around it.
A few long routes leave town in different directions. They are the strongest lines on the map and show how the town connects to the wider region.
Sparse lines beyond the centre reflect the lightly settled country of Betsiboka, which gives the composition a calm, spacious quality.

Koteā ko Tsaratanana
Posters of small towns are almost always personal. They mark where someone was born, where they volunteered, or where a relative still lives. Tsaratanana's simple layout makes a clean, uncluttered print that still clearly shows one place and nowhere else.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The free 900 px watermarked preview lets you check the composition before buying the $9 HD files.
